How does the iPhone 17 compare to the iPhone 16. This video will give you a basic rundown of all of the new features to see if you should upgrade or spend the extra on the iPhone 17!
I'm showing you exactly how to stop Your iPhone Tracking You and Listening to you by showing you which crucial settings to TURN THIS OFF! I realized my iPhone has been constantly tracking almost everything I do—from my exact location and microphone usage to my messages, health data, and frequent travel routes. Much of this data is being sent to Apple and other companies not to improve my life, but to build a comprehensive profile used for targeted advertising. By disabling these settings, I am taking back control of my personal information and ensuring that a trillion-dollar company isn't logging my every movement or conversation for no benefit to me. It’s an essential step toward protecting my digital footprint, reducing cross-app surveillance, and preserving true personal privacy in a world of constant data collection. Why You Want to Do This • Protect Your Location History: You can prevent Apple from tracking and storing your "significant locations" (like home and work) and your frequent travel routes [05:03]. • Stop Cross-App Surveillance: Turning off tracking prevents apps from sharing your activity, emails, and browsing across other websites and companies for advertising [01:03]. • Prevent Unnecessary Audio Monitoring: Disabling specific analytics features, like "Improve Handwashing," stops the phone from processing limited motion and audio data while you are in a private space [02:02]. • Reclaim Your Data: You stop sharing analytics on your daily usage, health measurements, and diagnostics that benefit the company but not necessarily you [01:54]. FAQ Q: Is turning off all analytics really necessary? A: I recommend turning off all unnecessary analytics. Features like "Improve Handwashing" track motion and audio data in private spaces, and I believe it's data I don't need to share with Apple [02:02]. Q: What is "Allow Apps to Request to Track" and why should I turn it off? A: This setting allows apps to track your activity across other apps and websites. By turning it off, you block companies from sharing all your actions, emails, and messages between their different platforms for ad targeting [01:03]. Q: Will turning off all Location Services break my phone? A: Not entirely, but some apps may lose core functionality. For essential services like Emergency Calls or Find My, I recommend leaving them on while disabling unnecessary ones like Significant Locations and Product Improvement [04:38]. Pros and Cons of Maximizing iPhone Privacy Pros • Complete Privacy Control: Stops sharing your messages, phone calls, and Siri activity. • Stops Location Logging: Prevents Apple from tracking and storing your frequent routes and "significant locations." • Prevents Cross-App Spying: Blocks apps from tracking your activity across other companies and websites. • No Diagnostic Uploads: Stops your phone from sending usage and diagnostic analytics to Apple. Cons • Reduced Ad Relevance: Turning off Apple Advertising means you'll see generic ads instead of targeted, personalized ones. • Loss of Improvement Features: Disabling Analytics means you won't contribute to improving Apple's health, AR, and handwashing features. • Potential Location Inconvenience: You may need to manually enable location for certain apps (like Maps) if you set them to "Never." She got iPhone face
So my 10 year old nephew is becoming more of a “tech kid” every day. His mom just got the iPhone 17, and while we were talking about it, I casually mentioned that older iPhones actually used to come with a charging cable, the wall adapter, and earphones in the box. He didn’t believed me at all and instead of asking me or any other family member again or googling it, the kid immediately pulled up ChatGPT to fact check me. I don’t know what’s funnier that he thought I was making it up, or that his first instinct was to ask Chatgpt for the truth. Later on when I was thinking about the incident, part of me felt old and a little scared not sure why but honestly, it’s hilarious how different their “normal” is compared to ours.
This is the iPhone roadmap according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo
My wife recently upgraded to iPhone 17 and he have held on to ALL he previous iPhones perfectly. We still have the iPhone X in perfect condition. 3 Weeks in, her phone slipped out her pocket from our dining chair to the concrete floor with Spigen case on. We weren’t worried as the drop was from a pretty low height but lo and behold!
Let’s get this out of the way: I *really* love the Air. It’s been a breath of fresh air (pun intended). But I’ve noticed a lot of posts here where people downplay its caveats to justify their purchase which isn’t needed. It’s a great phone, and most folks will be happy with it unless you’re really into photography and need the extra lenses. I’m not going to rehash what every review has covered. Instead, here are the things reviewers have been *less than honest* about, or that I’ve seen presented as “better” than they actually are. # TL;DR * **Speaker**: Manageable but noticeably worse than something like an iPhone 16 Pro Max. Expect to press volume up 2–5 more times to reach similar loudness, with flatter/less full sound * **Battery**: Not terrible, but expect \~20% (2–3 hours) less endurance (constant usage) vs a 16 Pro Max. With usage learning, probably more like 10–15% (1–2 hours) (constant usage) long term after the battery is optimized/spotlight finished indexing, etc. * **Haptics:** Feel like an overall 50% decrease in strength. Super noticeable but manageable * **Weight & Feel**: This is the reason to buy. It makes every other iPhone (and most Androids) feel like a brick # The Speaker I’ve read 60+ threads, hundreds of comments, and watched dozens of videos. Almost nobody is being fully transparent. * It's **fine** for casual use but nothing more * Sound is flatter, with less bass and fullness. Think “studio flat” but not in a flattering way * On my 16 Pro Max, 4–5 clicks up from zero gave me clear, full sound. On the Air, I need 6–8 clicks for similar loudness — but with reduced clarity * If the 16 Pro Max is a **10/10**, the Air is a **5/10** Bottom line: you’ll adjust quickly, but don’t expect “great.” # The Battery This is another area where people exaggerate. * For most, you’ll need to **recharge once per day** unless you game heavily or spend a lot of time in the Camera app * The Camera app in particular *torches* the battery... just like on my 16 Pro Max, but the smaller cell here makes it feel harsher * So far it feels like a **20% hit in longevity** (\~1–3 hours less of "constant usage" per day). After a week or two, I expect that to settle to 10–15% (1–2 hours less of "constant usage" per day) once iOS optimizes background activity. This is compared to my 16 pro max It’s a real tradeoff, but not a dealbreaker. # The Vibration Motor * They’re **much weaker** than on the 16 Pro Max... I’d say over a 50% reduction in noticeability * It’s not necessarily bad; on the 16 Pro Max the vibration motor was borderline *too strong* at times * On the Air, you’ll notice it less in your pocket, which might be a downside if you rely heavily on feeling notifications Bottom line: weaker haptics are to be expected here, but they might actually be a positive depending on your preference. # The Weight & Feel This is why I switched... and it’s incredible! Reviews aren't doing this enough justice. I don’t shoot much video/photos, but I do game a lot (Hearthstone is my guilty pleasure, even though it’s an unoptimized mess) which is why I picked this phone. * The **weight reduction is immediately noticeable**. The 16 Pro Max now feels like a dated brick in comparison * After using the Air, every other iPhone (and most Androids) feels like a dinosaur weighing down my pocket This part is worth it alone. # Final Thoughts The Air is a fantastic phone. The tradeoffs are real: speakers, battery, cameras... but for me, the thinness and lightness are absolutely worth it. If you don’t *need* Pro-level cameras and can live with slightly worse audio and battery, you’ll probably love it too. Hope this helps! Happy to answer any questions. # Use Of AI Disclosure ChatGPT was used to reorganize, reword and recategorize some sections here and to remove a lot of my rambling. The goal was to make the post more readable and skimmable. All content and opinions are my own, not from AI. **EDIT:** One smaller thing I forgot to mention, the haptic vibrations. They're terrible. Like, over 50% reduction in noticeability with the vibration motor. To be expected and probably for the best, my 16 Pro Max's vibration motor was insanity and sometimes too much. Adding this to the main post. **EDIT 2:** Even I was dumb enough to write "Speakers" instead of Speaker. Have a laugh at my expense, but it's been corrected. **EDIT 3:** Battery section adjustment to be more clear. **EDIT 4:** As suggested I tested another Air that a friend picked up today. Same vibration weakness mine had. He had a clear case on his and we took it off to make sure it was as even as possible in comparison to mine. With a case on, his vibration was a bit louder, but BARELY. It was still VERY weak in comparison to my old 16 Pro Max. **EDIT 5:** Added a disclosure for use of ChatGPT to be transparent.
I’ve had my iPhone air since release. I’ve been an iPhone user since the original was released in 2007, typically upgrading every 1-2 years, and I’ve never had second thoughts about a purchase. However, the battery life on the air is just not enough for me. I’m typically taking the phone off charger around 6am, and while sometimes I have some juice left when I go to bed around 11pm or so, many times it’s on low battery mode, or I have to top it off. I wouldn’t consider myself a power user, but I use my phone consistently throughout the day. The battery is at 100% capacity, and it’s struggling to keep up with my needs. It’s hard to imagine what it would be like at 90% capacity. When I couple the battery issues with the camera deficiencies and the single speaker, I’m left regretting my purchase. I do make calls on speaker sometimes, and the single speaker can make it hard to hear the person on the other end. I do like the form factor, and that is why I gave it a shot, but to have dramatically better battery/camera/speaker for only $100 more with the pro, I will be returning my air and purchasing the pro. I will miss having a lighter phone, but the tradeoffs on performance are simply not worth it.

DISCLAIMER: I don't like Apple AT ALL and that's (also) because if EU never forced them to open a bit they would have been worse than Google. However, now Android risks of getting like iPhone was back in the day so I tought they could have been a (not really great) solution to degoogle fast. No google service by default, no installation of nothing, just change search engine from Safari. I'm not too great when it comes to computing, I barely install Linux by myself on PC but phones are all another story. I'm open to get insulted and learning how to degoogle better but I just wanted to throw it there and see if it can be an option
I’m curious why the iPhone Air isn’t chosen more often. It has a battery life similar to the iPhone 17, a titanium body, a big screen, and it’s light and thin. With all these features, why wouldn’t people prefer it over other models?
I don’t know if this has been posted already, so sorry if it has. I have a newborn and limited time to check. I have had the iPhone 13 since launch and have only updated to IOS 18.7.1 on it. I just purchased the iPhone 17, and still have my 13 until I send it in. Has anyone else noticed it takes FOREVER to load things? Videos stop and have to load. Simple social media post comments won’t display for 20-30 seconds. I load the same thing on my iPhone 13 at the same time and it has no problems loading anything and maintaining good speed. I wanted an updated camera for my newborn, but is it worth it? Do I keep my iPhone 13?
